A bit of footage of my mates Mk2

Postby bones » 17 Nov 2009, 23:27

Since know one has posted anything for a while, I thought I would put some footage from a local rally the other weekend of my mates MK2 in the wet with 317 horse John Read 2.4 XE motor that has just been fitted in it.

Dear God, those aren't the sort of conditions I'd like to get to know the car in
Looks like he's going to be in for a bit of fine tuning on the suspension - seems almost like gravel spec's.
Any links for the engine builder - in case my LOTTO ticket comes in?

Fully tuned tarmac spec, double wishbone independent rear end fitted with Proflex coilovers and front has 270 lbs springs fitted with coilover billies, running front and rear anti roll bars. It's pretty solid on the road it probably looks like gravel spec as it has the large type arches on the front like Colin McRaes MK2. I don't think John Read (JRE John Read Race Engines )has a web site. A bit of on-board using a new HD camera fitted by Peter Dukes son .

Good luck with the Lotto win you'll need it 2.4's don't come cheap. And as for price don't ask you don't want to know.

I thought he was going to hit the wall at 3:15

Last time I priced a 2.4 up it was pushing 20 big ones* - and that was over 10 years ago - obviously no LOTTO in the intervening years.

*Remember exports are VAT exempt.

At 2.38 you can just see a red Subaru that had just not long hit one of the the cattle grid walls, they were very lucky to have got away with it ( I think the car was wrecked but they were ok), when you hit them end on they don't really move very much.

All the clips look fantastic.

Nice to see rallying on the road in this country!

Although someone should tell the marshalls in the first of the clips above they should be behind the wall as the cars come towards them!!

Forgot.... What a cracking finish to the last clip!!! :D
That made me watch it again and again.

PS I think he needs to invest in a quicker steering rack!
