I am here in the US and not a Briitish born but a Southern Man in North Carolina struggleing with a car from your side of the pond. It's a Hillman Husky 1959 Model. I have joined this forum because I think the Chevette is closest to make a change of front crossmember to allow better brakes and more modern parts. My question is Do you know anyone with experience using the chevette platform for a Hillman or Husky? I realize the shock towers would require fabrication but the suspention and steering should work.

Preabme: I don't know jack about Hillman Huskys, other than what wikipedia just told me, but here is some possibly useful information anyway :)

T-body front crossmemembers held the engine mounts, upper arms, lower arms (front bolt) and the steering rack. The rear bolt of the lower arms is on the body.

If you're Hillman has the steering on the right side you will need to get a vauxall (UK) steering rack & pinion. Don't know if it attaches any differently, but appears to attach the same.

Now, since you are in the US, and looking for larger brakes, likely the easiest way to go would be with Pontiac Fiero stub axles & brake assemblies, and lower arms. The dampers mounted on the lower arm on the fiero, rather than on the upper arm on the chevette. The fiero/chevette arms/knuckles are interchangable and use the same ball-joints.

I've got a 84 chevette (US made) crossmember and measuring tape next to my computer if you desire any measurements.

Whew - what are you intending to do with it? If it's for show it'd be best stock standard but if you're playing with it ...
Anyway, perhaps some of these people can make some suggestions ...
