Just reading through your Member's cars posts, looks like it's all happening down your way! Have you had a quote for the respray? I was quoted silly prices to have mine done, although people have admitted that they really didn't want the hassle of painting an older car - simple accident insurance jobs is where the real money is at.

Have you managed to get to the bottom of your heater problem? First port of call could be the heater valve located where the heater pipe disappears through the bulkhead into the cabin. It's not unknown for these to seize open or closed, especially if the car has been standing for any length of time. Check if the dash lever is still connected via cable as well. I don't think the hot/cold mixer is any more complicated than controlling this valve - good old simple days before automatic climate control! I've got that on the Saab, and it's heating system is about 10% as efficient as that in the Chevette. Simple is best.

Two quotes so far for the spray.

One place said I would get no change out of £1k, and the other tentative price off Comrade Paul on Pop classics of around £500.

The only downside is that he is in Norwich.

Final place I need to try is a guy I work with who has a restoration business. Chevettes aren't normally his thing but he is going to take a look for me.

So once new MOT is secured and retax then it should hopefully come together through March & April.

I'm hoping the heater is the lever not connected as a similar thing happened to one of my earlier chevettes. That said it had been sat for two years before I bought it.

Thanks for the advice on the heater Doive once the weather warms up a little I will get on it :)

Had a look at the new sills and the look good (not fitted yet of course). Is it very sad to get excited about receiving new parts.

Due to money being an issue the car will be kept as standard for the foreseeable but there are some longer term plans.

OK MOT is next week son fingers crossed.

If / when it passes I hope to be getting it sprayed and new sills fitted early April. The radio is off to GJR from Pop classics to be fixed and I have picked up some Rostyles with nearly new tyres for £40. The wheels need a minor refurb and the tyres are 175.70/13 will these be OK on the car?

Once its back I will sort the heater and rear seat belts and all ready for the summer. So should start posting updates soon.

Oh well the Chevette failed its MOT yesterday

Some grot around the wishbone right hand front, I suppose thats not too bad for a 25 year old car.

Anyway my local garage are going to sort it out and get the new sills on it next week. So hopefully then get some silver spray quickly on the wheels to make them look semi decent while I work on doing a good job on the Rostyles.

Just had a call from the garage and its all done and passed its MOT at Just over £250 which includes having my new sills fitted.

Pretty pleased with that and looking forward to picking it up tomorrow will post some piccies in my other thread some time over the weekend.

Nearly there to put back on the road next week 8)

Finally managed to change the fan belt last night after using nearly a can of WD40 of the past few nights to free it up. I don't think it has ever been changed as I have no bill for it and the one I took off was as smooth as a smooth can be :shock:

Think I have the heater blowing cold now which is good.

So all that is left this week is to fit the rear seat belts, a new breather pipe and finish painting the wheels.

Hopefully some good weather on spring bank holiday so we can get out in her.

Excellent news there mate. £250 for replacing the sills AND an MoT is an absolute bargain, make sure you get them filled to the brim with some form of rust proofer! When I did my fan belt on the saloon, the alternator mounting bolts looked as if they had come off the Titanic, and had probably never been touched since Ellesmere Port in 1983. Old belt kept it's exact shape when it came off!
