I'm guessing there are two types of std rack, in that case a std later type will do so I can build a quick rack kit into it

The one on the car has a round flexible joint and the kit won't fit that one..

I also have another complete quick rack and that has the same type of rectangular fitting as the column so I need a suitable joint for that..

Presumably you have the one that has the integral joint - one piece with the pinion shaft? If so, yes, you need a later one - '78 on.

Word of warning - I bought a rack off that guy Ralph's posted the link to a year or two back, I think he's got a whole stack of them, and it was full of grit - either not recon or done badly.

sounds like I need a 78 on rack, and a new joint, anyone know ehere you get a joint from?
