how fast can a chevette go?

Postby spyke » 27 Mar 2006, 21:47

my mate just sent me a gear ratio calculater which as it says on the tin. calculates the speed of which your car will go.
Gear Mph per 1000 RPM Mph @5600 RPM Mph @6000 RPM

1 ________ 4.47____________ 25______________ 27
2 ________ 7.59____________ 43______________ 46
3 ________11.97____________67______________ 72
4 ________16.80____________94 ______________101

thats with 195/60/14s. does anyone know the size of a standard chevette wheel/tyre combo. or if any body has different ratios and are curious of how fast you chevette goes. please dont hesitate to ask.

Doesn't allow for the fact that you'ld be unlikely to pull 6000 rpm in top- it's way over the power peak. So... fine for in gears and lower revs in top, but no indication of how fast it would actually go.

I'm pretty sure mine had standard tyres on, the fastest I ever had Purple up to was around 160 km/h (we're not entirely sure, the speedo stops at 140). It was on the way home from Sudbury fully loaded down with Xmas presents and boyfriend, and there may have been a hill involved, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't one of the big ones.

I know my Little Beast will do 135 km/h, witnessed by my boss and one or two other coworkers as we were all racing along the highway to a seminar... Beast, the Grand Prix, and boss's truck (Suburban or something Chev), the truck was in front and I was in the middle. The Prix passed me, so I passed my boss and kept up to the Prix all the way to the off ramp... When we all parked, both of the other drivers exclaimed that they didn't think my car could go that fast... I replied that it sure can, it just takes a while to get there...

(0 to 100 km/h (60 mph) time on this one is usually greater than 30 seconds)
