Good to see our taxes (well yours :P) go to paying people to undertake worthwhile causes. *beep*
when all else fails, rivets, cable ties and bodge tape will see you through

We had a woman here in Lisburn bought herself a car last saturday and parked it outside her house until monday morning when she could tax it. She was woken at 5.30 on sunday morning by a lorry outside taking her car away, overseen by a police officer. When she ran out to demand an explanation, the officer informed her that the car had been untaxed for 5 months and he was impounding it (presumably because it had sat unsold - it was a Daewoo Matiz after all). She explained that she had only bought the car, and had planned to tax it first thing on monday morning. The officer was adamant, and the car disappeared. £200 release fee and £115 tax bill later, she got her car back. Now just what the heck was she supposed to do? Declare it SORN for 36 hours? Break into the post office and fill out a tax disc? People here are up in arms, and it's yet another example of our controlling government.

Well if all SORN'd our cars every time the Tax ran out regardless of the lenght of time, be it 12 hours - 12 months, then I think the DVLA/C (??) would get mightily pi**ed off and revue the scheme.

Well I had to declare SORN when my car failed the MoT - for a total of 48 hours, just to be on the safe side. Heard horror stories in the past. By the time the declaration came through, the car had been taxed for three weeks.
