that's bad. Sony do very well out of backwards compatibility, you'd have thought the opposition would do the same thing.

Ah, but this is Micro$hit remember. Anything to weasel more money out of the unexpecting parents who bought one of these things for their kids.

Perhaps I have a slightly biased position. I just can't stand anything Micro$oft.

I think it's frigging criminal to not make things backwards compatible...

of course, I also think it's criminal that there seems to be no format I can save a Word document at the office (not my fault!) that's compatible in any way with the computer I'm using on a construction site that's only got WordPerfect... RTF failed me...

Problem being, these were the minutes of a meeting in tabular form with basic formatting that I needed to edit, and if I'd gone to a txt file I mighta been able to convince SOMETHING to open it, but it would have been useless as I'd have had to reformat everything when I got the file back to the office, which, as anyone who's ever been forced to use Word knows, it's near impossible to do sensible formatting after the fact... MS wants you to know exactly what you want before you start... Nobody there's ever worked for someone like my boss, who wants it all changed around cause he can't focus on the content if he doesn't find a document aesthetically pleasing... I miss WordPerfect :(

I gave up and just send it PDF... no editing, but at least I can use the Find function to look stuff up...
