Carburettor Problems

Postby UpNorth » 29 Nov 2006, 19:42

Well, at least I think it is!

Suddenly the old Cavalier won't idle & the engine revs hunt around - even when I put a few revs on the engine it still fluctuates. As it's an automatic gearbox with the fluid coupling, when on the overrun I can hear the revs fluctuating. However the car runs great - 120 miles per day!

It's got the automatic choke which is fully open so I don't think it's that playing-up - any ideas? My only guess is sh1t in the float bowl but I'm not convinced.

Before I have a look at the weekend please fire-in your suggestions!
Anyone have a 6R4 for sale? Unfortunately I've only got £1K spare but I could throw in a few eggs to sweeten the deal!

Does it have any silly little vacuum pipes hanging around the carb area?
One split maybe?

I had a similar problem on an old Astra yrs ago, was down to a split pipe.

A Solex job.

I completely forgot about it as I picked-up my Mk1 hatchback & gave that a thorough going over to clear the decks for my next vehicle.

I shall sort it this coming weekend (hopefully!)
