indeed, he makes very pleasant watching in comparison to miserable bastard clarkson.

tbh, the trio are a fantastic team and top gear has to be one of the most watched shows in the country. I've always found myself willing Hammond to win on all of those daft competitions they have. Maybe it's because he's always the underdog lol

At least he`s stable in LGI this morning, I like Richard.... James May`s a bit of a `girl` & JC is just.....well, Jeremy Clarkson - blunt Yorkshireman!

Blimey! Hope Hamster gets better quickly, that's not a good accident to have. Did the TG crew take it too far this time?

I reckon Jezza is a bit of an ego with legs and a bald spot, Hamster is indeed the underdog, but I empathise most with James. He is indeed Captain Slow, and following the weekend of riding shotgun in Shelly I can confirm that I am also a definite Captain Slow. And I don't care.

Yeah, noticed this morning that his condition was stable. HSE are investigating. Hope this doesnt have any repurcussions for TG and/or wider repurcussions for motorsport (I fear jobsworths) and hope that Hamster continues to improve and gets well soon

Yeah I figure he can't have too much wrong with him if he's still got the wherewithall to banter with his mates. Did everyone see Clarkson's Sun article today (don't worry I don't buy the sun - I read it on t'internet). It was regurgitated across the news this evening as if it was the inside scoop - I dunno what they pay these newscasters for, honestly....

According to Clarkson the pipe and slippers brigade are now saying that Top Gear should be taken off the air. Now I wouldn't say I'm a HUGE fan of the show but it's a nice bit of car-related light entertainment and if Hammond wants to go round nearly killing himself in insanely overpowered dragsters then he should be allowed to, say I. It makes for some entertaining television and it doesn't hurt anyone else so let them get on with it. If anything the whole media circus that has surrounded Richard Hammond's accident has made me more of a Top Gear supporter than before.

wholeheartedly agree.

he got into the car of his own accord. he knew the dangers. he knew the score. I dare say, when he gets out of hospoital he'll do it all again just to prove a point.

It's exactly the same with motorsport. You'll find big signs everywhere, and on entry forms for pretty much any MSA event "Motorsport is dangerous". You take the choice to take the risk. Nobody should have the right to take that choice away from you.

Where would you draw the line? - Ban topgear > Ban motorsport > Ban diving > Ban handgliding > Ban driving > ban crossing the road > Bn having canaries/voles/goldfish ( see other thread for obvious dangers)

cant we just ban the interfering jobsworths?

They want to raise enough to buy another `Heli-Hammy`.
So far they have raised approx £250,000, the target is 500,000 up!

It`s on the TV news every few hours here, with it being local.
It`s a very worthwhile cause, which I support. And if every Top Gear fan gave just 50p, they`d be able to buy 2 more Helicopters!!

he's gone down a lot in my estimation now he's been transferred to a private hospital. the NHS is good enough to save his life but not good enough to recuperate him apparently....tosser.
if Yorkshire Air Ambulance only has the money to run 1 helicopter and is struggling to buy another how are they going to support 2 if they did buy another one? a very worthwhile cause though but it should really be government funded.

Nowt wrong with private medical care... in most cases the NHS don't have the specialist staff to deal with injuries like Richard's, and I'd much rather pay a few quid to ensure I was looked after properly. NHS nursing staff are excellent, but the organisation is hopelessly shambolic and most of the specialist care has gone to the private sector.

It`s a BUPA Hospital. Which means he`s probably been paying in to the fund to be able to use it.
Also all he needs now is rest, so why take a NHS bed up doing that? ...Fair play to him, & it`s nearer to his Family & Friends.

Not aimed at you Nick, just some info

They ain`t `struggling` to buy another, they`re raising money to buy another. The Leeds/Bradford based MD Eurocopter they already have, was bought last year, through fund raising. Prior to that they had the ex-WY Police Helicopter, which has now been sold on.
The new one they are wanting is to be based at Sheffield, to cover South Yorks/North Midlands area. They should now be able to get it next year!

Around here we have big Yellow Clothing collection `skips` in car parks etc, for the Air Ambulance, which are very well supported, & they also have regular street collections, Raffles, stalls at car boots/galas etc.

Yes it, & all Air Ambulances should be Government funded, but they`re not, so maybe we should all give a donation, even a quid helps, to our local one. Until you personally know someone who`s life was saved by an Air Ambulance, as my Cousins was, it`s just a yellow Helicopter flying about.

Hmm, not in my experience mate. I'm fortunate enough to have BUPA cover, my father signed up for a family pack with his job 30 years ago and I've kept the membership going for myself. Most specialists I have seen have all jumped ship from the NHS, with the odd one doing private work at evenings and weekends. They can earn more during four hours of evening work than in an eight hour NHS shift.

One advantage is waiting times. When I went to see a heart specialist, the NHS waiting time was something like 16 weeks, which for someone with undiagnosed chest pains is an eternity. The BUPA waiting time was 'When would you like to be seen?' The very next week I was perched on a bed, attached up to all sorts of state of the art equipment. It does cost a bloody fortune mind.

You mean to tell me if someone offered you a job doing exactly what you are doing now, with half the workload and half the stress but for twice the pay, you wouldn't take it?

i get private health care cover through work. surely it helps take some of the burden off the NHS!?

I have only ever found the staff of the NHS to be wonderful - however, the number of atrocious errors, forced by long hours, that have happened within my family begger belief:

i wont list them here, but I will say I would feel safer on a private bed.
