Car of my dreams

Postby Doive » 06 Sep 2006, 22:42

I've only gone and spotted the very car I've wanted since I was 12...

<img src="http://pictures.autotrader.co.uk/ATD_web/servlet/media?id=372931277">

...a TVR Griffith 500 in that fantastic blue colour. I'm mildly surprised about the price too, I seem to remember they sold for £32,995 back in 1994, not that I was keeping count or anything. For some reason when you are 12, these things will one day happen but as I've got older I've succombed to the cruel world and resigned myself to the fact I'd never have one. But now, I realise all is not lost, and in fact if I work really hard for the next year and save every single penny I earn, I could possibly own such a vision in loveliness as that. Yayy! Hope springs eternal.

So does anyone know any good insurance companies who would take on a 25 year old bloke with a Griffith?! Best quote so far is 1300 quid.

Well strictly speaking 12 in 1993 when the Griffith 500 came along, but yes, 12 in 1994. Sorry mate!

Am I wrong to want to get this ol' beauty from 1978?

If I only had the cash to go get it. I remember seeing it listed on ebay every year, and nobody bids on it.

BTW: I pay $2300 a year for insurance.... and it's only a 2005 cavalier. (ecotec 2.2 auto) Fuel is half the price here.... but the cost to drive still rapes the pocketbook.

Sorry for OT.

You pay $2300 a year for one car insurance? OMG

I'll pay only $200.

Of course, gasoline is much more cheaper there than here.

Im right there with you Doive, the Griffith was such a brute, I remember seeing one as a kid and when it took off down the road, the V8 felt like it punched you in the head!
How do I put a message in this space under each of my posts?

am i the only one whose dream car would be a Group 4 HSR?

Also, Group B Audi Quattro S1, or a lancia stratos. Wouldnt mind a metro 6R4 either!

For that matter V8 bowler....

failing that a TVR would be lovely. Chimeara, Griffith, Tuscan (wouldnt you just love a speed 12!)
when all else fails, rivets, cable ties and bodge tape will see you through

Tim,

I thought your Dream Car would be anything with wheels that started and ran! 8)

My Faves either an Overfinch Range Rover, or a minter `57 Chevy Belair!

I assume your friend is older than you then!

Anyhow, I've always wanted a 6R4 - nearly done it too but anything remotely affordable needs the same price again spending on it. And some mention of the maintenance costs struck the fear of God into me!
Anyone have a 6R4 for sale? Unfortunately I've only got £1K spare but I could throw in a few eggs to sweeten the deal!
