Bass guitar

Postby Doive » 31 Jul 2006, 12:31

I've come to the conclusion that I'd really like to learn the bass guitar, but I was wondering if anyone on here had any hints or tips on what to buy as a newbie. The interweb seems to be full of many hundreds of makes and models - I guess this must be what it's like for some buying a new car. To me they all have a fret and strings, so they all must be good - right?

Well I bought a cheap bass from a company called Wesley based in the North East. To be honest I know it's cheap, but by and large his products have received very good reviews, and all I'm interested in is learning the technique rather than producing stadium filling rock. Looking forward to getting it soon. I also picked up a free acoustic yesterday 8)

Flea out of the Chili Peppers technique? - i'm going to play a bass solo throughout the song you other band members play around me, or Cliff Williams out of AC/DC technique? - i'm going to twang this one string and play 3 chords while Angus entertains the audience

Sorry, I'm entirely bereft of knowledge on this subject area. I'm vaguely aware of an assortment of musicians known as Level 42, but a bit before my time really. I'm just going to get the guitar, plug it in and try to reporoduce the bass lines of some classic tunes. Plus really annoy my neighbours no doubt.
