Latest hire car..... bottom.

Postby Doive » 26 Jun 2006, 15:23

I have to drive to Cambridgeshire tonight. On account of the stupid company insurance I cannot drive any of the pool vehicles, hence they have to hire me really crap hire cars. The last one was a top spec Meriva, which was really nice actually. However, this time it hasn't worked so well....

Ah. A Daewoo/Chevrolet (!) Kalos. Not good. The looks I can handle, the wheezy engine I can almost come to terms with, but the interior is quite simply the lowest quality pile of cack I have ever placed my bottom in. It's frankly terrible. In absolute honesty the Chevette is a nicer place to sit, and that was designed in 1974. See hard plastics, switches like boiled sweets, warning lights so small as to need sophisticated optical aids and a radio that looks as if it fell out of a modified Vauxhall Nova, circa 1991. I'm not hopeful about my 600 mile round trip.

The post above is my own personal opinion, it is not meant to upset or cause offence, if it does bugger off.

Been there and back. It was a site meeting outside of March, followed by a day of meetings in a large hotel (which was rather nice). The car was surprisingly capable, drove down non-stop and still got out feeling great. Don't get me wrong, I would never ever buy one with my own money, but it was reasonably ok to drive. Think of it as a slightly tacky low quality modernised chevette with a fifth gear and you're getting close.

Surely this sorry looking device doesn't handle?
Anyone have a 6R4 for sale? Unfortunately I've only got £1K spare but I could throw in a few eggs to sweeten the deal!

You're not wrong there. It had a centre of gravity akin to that of the International Space Station. While in orbit. I took it down one of my 'test tracks' that I take all the hire cars along, and the first corner was interesting to say the least. Masses of body roll followed by handfuls of understeer, and then a little lift off oversteer when I did manage to get it round. Abysmal. The Chevette is much more fun to drive.
