steering lock

Got a problem with your beloved Chevette?

steering lock

iv got a chevette to dump, but cant get the sterring to come off lock, cos it has no key. so i cant tow the *beep*, is their a way i can "break" it so the wheels will be free

Disconnect the column from the rack would make the wheels free but tricky to steer! If you pull the column assembly apart and remove the ignition barrel, I think this should free the wheel as the barrel and lock are attached together somehow. Only been in there once but I didn't have a very close look at the lock.

Sit in the passenger seat, get your back against the door, put yer feet on the spokes of the steering wheel & push with yer legs to snap the lock........that`s how the twoc`rs do it!

Or get an angle grinder on the shear bolt that holds the switch/lock on the column, or `bar` it off, they`re only made of diecast monkey metal.

yes, the plan was to hit it with a crowbar till it broke, did try to hammer a screwdriver into it and also to drill it out, but it wouldnt work. i mean come on, i can start my car with my fingernail :evil:

haha :o iv beaten the bugger, i sawed through the (tierods?) now the wheels can turn as much as they want :twisted:
