water getting in

Postby bbstewbs » 01 Oct 2007, 12:15

Not sure which forum to put this in, but here goes. I have been getting water in my car from the rain. It appears to be coming in somewhere above where the radio is. I have checked the windshield and it does not appear to be that. When I looked from the inside I could see it dripping down but not sure where it is coming from. Not sure if this is enough information or not. Living in the Bahmas lately has not been a dry place.

Three prime suspects here.

1) Battery tray/holder. This tends to rot through.

2) Area under windscreen washer bottle.

3) Heater fan motor cover. This is the black plastic piece in the centre of the bulkhead, when the seal gets old it tends to allow water to seep past.

There is another place, I had it leaking from this point on my 76 Pinto Chevette.

Its a worn wiper spindle, this is directly above the radio area and had me looking for it for ages.

Right sod of a job to get to and change but its do-able. 3 bolts hold it in, and a rubber seal sandwitched between it and the scuttle panel. Bearing was shot and the O ring seals in the spindle were Farquared letting in the water.
