is it actually a left hand thread!? that may be why i rounded the allan key hole (if memory serves me well) when i faffed with mine back in the day when i had an engine in my chevette lol.
when all else fails, rivets, cable ties and bodge tape will see you through

put a big electric fan on, mine use to over heat somit cronic, as never done it seens

Shouldn`t over heat at all, unless your timing`s out, as mine was once after I was playing with the twin carbs/timing, it was boiling like a kettle :P
