Copied from my post on Retro-Rides.com

Take a look here: http://www.danielsternlighting.com/home.html

This gives you the pros and cons of different types of lights and bulbs
http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech ... bulbs.html

Very Very useful site, well written, good advice and lots of myths about HID Systems etc debunked

It`ll take you half an hour or so to find everything but it is well worth it

I always relay Headlamp looms, as it is so easy to do and makes such a difference to the light output even with standard bulbs.
Running lights like I have on the Quattro I make up a complete lighting loom, for Fogs, spots, long range, Hi and low beam
All seperately fused and relayed

Bit excessive for Essex, but essential out in the Alps over winter.

Might have something to do with Running VAG products for years too....
Its a common mod on Golfs etc as the standard wiring allows a big voltage drop.

Relay diagram here:

As someone else said, it reduces the load on the switch as well

i need to get moving on the re-wiring of my headlights and spotlights soon otherwise the good weather will be here and i know i won't be arsed to do it then. as i know feck all about vehicle electrics i'd like the answer to some questions i have off the leccy gods before parting with hard earned cash.
1 - talking to my little brother (whose a leccy god of the household type) about this the other day he professed to know feck all about vehicle electrics but suggested i use tri-rated cable if i could get it. is he correct or not? if not what cable should i use?
2 - Daniel Stern suggests i use 12AWG/4mmsq stranded cable with fusible links. what the hell is one of those and where would i get one from? could i not just buy a small fuse box and wire into that and use normal blade fuses?
3 - do i need to keep all of my wire lengths the same? i.e. i intend to wire the low beam circuit off one relay but obviously the nearside bulb will be a lot further away from the relay than what the offside bulb will be. would that matter? if not why not? if so why so?

thanks :? :? :? :? :?
