Strengthening the shell?

just a quick question to people who have transplanted big engines into base model chevettes, have any of you done any modifications to the shell for it to handle the new power? or is the shell able to take the power if its just going to be used for the road?

just a random thought when reading a few "members cars" topics

yeah I know "hsr2.6" has strengthend his car, but his is used for rallying, I just meant the cars for road use, because "hsr2.6" car is the only one I've seen strengthend (I should have made that clear in my first post)

Mine is getting the seam welding as laid out in the sportpart manual and some aditional strengthening.

The Cage will be tied in to the turrets and also pick up the front torque tube mount, as well as getting additional bars added in.

That way the loads get fed into the Cage rather than expecting the shell to take them all.

It depends on many things. Mine has a heavy engine, good thing is that the engine is mounted on the front axle not to the shell. So I have to make additoinal welding to the front axle and front turrets.
I miss my chevette :(

For a heavier and signifigantly more powerful engine (more than 120 hp) I'd begin to strenghen the body of any "t" body vehicle :)

All the chevettes I've ever had (bad body or not) would flex noticibly just with day to day driving. Would have a habit of putting my fingers along the top-back edge of the drivers door while driving with the windows down, and used to get my fingers 'pinched' if I hit a good bump.
