Sills...... who does the best replacements

Postby CR500Dom » 27 Oct 2006, 10:40

Oh well I guess I had to do it sometime :(

Went on a poking about trip last night and it appears the last person to "Repair" the sills didnt fix the inner sill first so I have now cut out the repair and can see where I need to cut and replace the centre section before doing the outer sills properly.

I can make the inner panels no problem but where is the best place to buy new outer sills ?

Any recomendations ??

Pics to follow later

Cheers
Dom

Hadrian Panels, based just up the road from me, do a selection of both full sills and skin sills for Chevettes, which I believe are the same as for the Kadett. Not sure on prices, because despite submitting numerous requests over the last couple of years I'm yet to receive a price. Try calling them direct, you may have more luck.

Well I've never used the Chevette/Kadett C sills myself but Hadrian spring to mind. I've had panels off them in the past for other vehicles and they've always been reasonable quality and a reasonable price.

I might be wrong but I believe Hadrian don't sell to the public. If I'm right just go to your local panel factors & order a sill via them.
Anyone have a 6R4 for sale? Unfortunately I've only got £1K spare but I could throw in a few eggs to sweeten the deal!

All ordered

Local Austin Healy place is a stockist so they will be with me on Monday

Thought as I am going to be Stuffing 200+hp through it, I ought to bite the bullet and do it right, so ordered a few more panels at the same time :D

Should be with me on Monday

Prices were very reasonable:

62-02-003 OPEL KADETT C (11/73-11/79) - FULL SILL 2 DOOR/VAN L/H 1 £13.00
62-02-002 OPEL KADETT C (11/73-11/79) - FULL SILL 2 DOOR/VAN R/H 1 £13.00
62-02-514 LOWER REAR CORNER SALOON R/H £11.50
89-09-282 INNER F/WING REPAIR REAR PART RH £8.40
89-09-283 INNER F/WING REPAIR REAR PART LH £8.40

Not bad at all  :D

Now all I have to do is get it all prepped underneath

Pic of the area:

You can just make out whats left of the middle panel, so I need to cut the outer panel back more to get access to repair this inner panel first

The other side is just the same as well, but I`ll do one at a time

That's not as bad as what I've been working on.... and a new "rocker" panel that went from front fender to rear wheel well was $45.

Sadly, the parts shop could only get one for a 4 door Long wheelbase, so it had to be shortened, and chopped to go onto the 2 door vehicle. You lot have it easy I swear

As it happens, Hadrian do not do sills anymore. I went to order some recently and was told they dont do them    . So, has anyone got sills for a 4-door?

When the inner rusts away at the back but not the outer on Mantas
I have been know to pop out the back seat, cut a nick with the grinder and drop the plate down from above, gives good access to weld that way and you don't have to take the Outer off to do it.
