Burnout diff

this may be bit weird, wat sought of diff should you put in if you want to do burnouts. Im not trying to be hooligan, just i am thinking of making a race car and the group c's always light up the bags at the start of a race. I was think either Commodore or old H series holden. mabe even cortina but then i would have to go to improved production class.

if you weld the diff you won't be able to steer as the back wheels will make it push the car straight all the time
rally drivers do it sideways.............well the quick ones do....................

i was gunna buy a torana diff but then i found out that the wheel would be poking out bout' 3 inches even if i flared the guard to the max. I gues i will have to make a sport sedan or improved production. Wat makes me a bogan 4 doing burnouts. Boys just a wanna have fun!

Locked diff is workable.

Just a bit of a pain in multistory car parks...

How do Global Lights get away with it then?

I maintain that a locked diff is perfectly fine for motorsport. Tyres are designed to work best within a slip angle. The difference in rotational speed on all but the tightest of corners (final corner at Croft-style) falls well within the percentage slip angle that the tyres are designed for.

I don't think I could run one on the road (for comfort reasons) but were I building a budget racer and didn't want to splash out a fair few hundred quid on an LSD then I'd lock it.

a limited slip diff would give you a comprimise than locking the diff completely.

i know a lad that runs locked diffs for banger racing granadas but from all account they're a bit mental. you dont have a choice than for the back end to come out, tailsliding is good fun but if you're racing bare in mind that sideways slipping is a loss of forwards momentum and thus speed.
when all else fails, rivets, cable ties and bodge tape will see you through

But, as I noted above, the slip angle falls within the (8% or so) optimum for most tyres.

Unless you're absolutely caning it, that is...Overdriving the car.

isuzu piazza turbo axle is only 2" wider than the stock one so will fit under the stock arches these have LSD as standard not to bad to fit either 8)
