gearbox

Postby colin » 24 Aug 2005, 21:27

hi again. the gear linkage from a 2.0 or 1.8 will do fine. a have a 2.0l o/h/c 8v turboed lots of fun. just a old cavy engine moded a bit with a T3 garrett strapped to it

yeh the carlton linkage is to long for the kadett but the manta will bolt strait on and come out the original hole in the floor. also the cih gearbox bellhousing is totaly different the cut out for the starter is on the wrong side

Hi Colin. You seem to have a lot of experience/good advice to share on this subject. Why not join up to our merry little forum? It's free afterall.

Slightly off-topic here but I noticed you mentioned the Garett T3 turbo there as found in Metro turbos and similar. I've been doing a bit of reading into turbocharging etc. recently and I've noticed the Garett T2.5 (as fitted to the Lotus Carlton) mentioned on a few occasions as a better alternative to the T3. Anyone got any idea what the differences between the two are?

hi the difference is that the t 2.5 is slightly smaller so is able to boost quiker ie earlyer in the rev range whitch stops any torbo lag but wont be able to produce high amounts off boost for long intervils! as well as a t3. the turbo i used is the t3 and is what is standard on your sierra cossie and will be good for an easy 22psi and with the engine i have used and this turbo i dont have any lag problems. just the normal good torque from the 8 valve then BOOST. i will see about getting some pics for u soon. its in a kadett saloon i got from doive(1 off your members) now with some tarmac arches and stuff and bright yellow.I will join up with yous tonight

hehe not at all chief - although there are two very distinct camps - those who like their motors restored as is and those of us who are more into our motorsport - but in general everyone respects everyone else opinion and right to do what they want with their car

Back to the gearbox thingy....the carlton linkage will fit.

If you look at it, there are more holes further in, all you need to do is chop a bit off (1-2" if I remember) and use the other set of holes to mount to the back of the box.

I had one in my kadett originally but found it a bit big to go in the tunnel, had to do a bit of expanding.
