Wow! Some fast work there Mr Bab, looking good.

What size tyres are you running on your 7s? 205/60/r13?

thanks for that, wondered what had happened too my post. much better that way.
yes my wellers are running 205/60r13, and they jsut fit in the arches with the lip cut off them. i will put the group 4 kit on it when i had some spare cash.

im very pleased with the build as nearly everything has been given or scavenged, the horn and washer bottle under the bonnet is from a corsa and it sits very neatly in the top corner of the engine bay.
carb and bits i had in my shed from my fords, seats were given to me by a friend after he sold his 4x4. an so on.
the car cost nothing and so far i have spent in actual cash £5 and that was on fuel, mot was cancelled due to failure of the emmisions machine should be back online tomorrow hopefully.

cheers, only trouble is oonce it goes for MOT i have to start spending cash :cry:
good job its cheap TAX £60 odd or what ever it is always pay full whack for my cortina

hopefully would like to be on the road fully saturday morning as my motor club has an autotest saturday afternoon and i want to use it, i drove it today for the first time properly on the road, the power is unbelieveable, floor it and it just wants to go sideways :D

What spec is the crossflow?
I used to have a MK2 Cortina with a 1700 running twin 40's and that was great fun! :D

im not sure, however the head has definately had work as the springs and valves are much larger and the rockers are much thicker than standard. and it idles uneven on the webber carb and stays above 1000rpm as if below that it starves of fuel. the engine was originally used for a low cost mk2 escort rally car which has since been fitted with a vauxhall XE engine. used to have a burton power alloy rocker cover on it but previous owner kept that and put a manky green original on, has a competition clutch and lightened flywheel and a free flow exhaust which is a modified mk2 escort itemand air filter.
ive have a totally original mk5 cortina, did have a mk2 cortina but replaced it with a mk2 escort then a mk1 but a friends accident and death in his mk1 decided me to sell mine, and that was in 2004 its only this year that i have got back into rallying and performance old skool cars but of course the cost of escort has rocketed.

and yours is a two door :cry: , are you sure it gone. would not believe the prices the cortinas are fetching at the moment even shed and even the mk4 and mk5, but 2dr mk1 and mk2 cortinas were always desireable, sure its not sitting in ayard somewhere?

someone bought it from me for the engine and last i heard of the shell it was sat in someone’s garden that was about 18 months ago.

have you typed the no plate on the dvla a site to see when either last change of keeper or last taxed, if its been scrapped they usually dont come up

by the looks of it iether the las t change of keeper or last taxed is 2002 which is 5yrs ago could it be when you sold it?

probably sitting somewhere, however i think with the new laws onfreedom of information yopu can ask for keeper of a car that you have owned but not sure exactly what it is you can and cant do, good piece of the site, i use it for cars ive seen ontv including sweeney professional and minder to see if they still around :D

Iv'e had the unfortunate pleasure of racing Moose a couple of times in the NSCC last year (i lost)

NEW MOT!!!!!! :D 8)

had a bit of trouble with emmisions because it needs a new carb other than that i had an advisiory for a missing exhaust clamp.

THATS IT!!!

insurance soon and im laughing :D

i must confess everything is not rosey in the garden of chevette.

there are still problems that need to be addressed before i can use it.

damaged threads on clutch cable (replace)
bonnet pins
VIN Plate
rally centre console
rewire new guages for fuel-water- oil e.t.c
bleed brakes again
chenge carb again as the mixture will not stay once set and its idling around 1100rpm.
new plastic fan
bolt in washer bottle
only an afternoons work just gotto wait until peter lloyd rallying which is local to moe is open monday to get the bits and pieces.

i will sell it at the right offer, but its not going to stop me working on it in the meantime, and should i still have it when the time comes that i can use it on the road i will tax it and use it until i get an offer the value can only go up the more i add and do too it 8)
