Cheers :)

The black lights will be removed ASAP...As will the boot spoiler.

I think I'll stick with the HS front end :)

have to say i'm very partial to the HS kit. I think the front end looks great on the saloon as well as the hatch but i think you're right in saying that the spoiler doesnt look quite right on the saloon.

The one thing I would change - back lights (anyone remember my Kadett?!). Apart from that mate, absolutely spot on. Keep her as she is, nice to finally see a saloon with an HS kit on it, the back spoiler just finishes it off. I don't think I've ever seen another silver saloon, must be one of a kind surely?

It may be worth getting in touch with the DVLA to find out exactly how many of each are left on the road (colour and body shape).

I really want a bike engine for it...I can't stop thinking about it even though I've only had it a day :p

Actually, I think I'm going to have to remove the drivers' door handle...I keep hitting my knee on it. 6'3", 16 stone...I don't think the seats go any further back.

Anyone know of suitable replacements for the door handles?

Neilyman - I used to live in Walker! Good job I'm not a local, I'd feel the need to steal my own car.

Actually, speaking of locals, the 'yoof' around here learned shortly after I moved in not to *beep* around with me. Crime, annoyance and general kids-being-scum has dropped in the last 12 months.

Well the big clue as to what it is will be what colour the interior is. It's kinda hard to tell from the pics. Now, in 1981 you could get Metallic silver paint on a standard L (at additional cost) which would've come with red Donegal Tweed cloth trim. If on the other hand it's one of the 1981 L specials then it used to be two tone and has been resprayed. If it was silver and green then it will have a green interior and if it was blue and silver it would've had what they called a grey interior which is actually a grey/blue colour. I notice it has a passenger side door mirror which would've been an option on a standard L but standard equipment on a special and another little treat that the specials had over the normal Ls were the side mouldings to help break up the two-tone paint (so you may find evidence of these holes being filled in).

Personally I reckon its just a normal L though :)

Hehe, Just having a `vision` of Penski doing a Bordacia <sp> impression whilst hurtling down The Fossway............. :P

Never had a problem with the door handle & I`m 6`2" & (shhh!) an 18 stone bat fastard!
[cartman] I`m not fat, I`m big boned [/cartman]

But how about one of those `slidey` black lay flat jobbies that are found on big amps & speakers?...I think you`ll know the ones...ribbed black handle with chrome end fixings, Image

The seats are green (covered in black vinyl).

Carpet is grey - think that was a recent change though as the fit isn't quite perfect...

I have the badges which were removed - Only Chevette L (were the specials badged differently?)

Anyone got pics of the silver/green paint job?

Wow an L special!!!! Fantastic. At least I'm fairly certain they wouldn't have let green interiors out on a standard L.... unless of course that too has been changed, but it had the passenger mirror. It's a modded car though so I guess we'll never know for certain. Not got a picture but I have got the brochure :D It had a green top half with black side mouldings and a silver lower half. Scanned in pics to follow... if I can convince my friend with a scanner to do it :D

Just called the previous owner - he still has the green front seats in his lockup.

The rear seats have a black vinyl cover.

Will take pics.

Hey Penski, Just had a message from Neily about you not fitting in your chevette. From memory, back when I had an H.S (when they were still in production),there is some method of getting more rearward travel on the adjuster. You can gain another couple of inches ( NO not there!) . If you know anyone who works /worked at a vauxhall dealership, they will probably tell you how it was done. I think the H.S had the same 'front bar' setup under the front of the seats,so the same thing should be possible with a standard car. 8)

There's about 2" between the seat back and the bench front.

To clarify, the door handle rubs on the upper/outside of my thigh :/

About mid-thigh, really.

Leg and arm position are pretty much spot-on...It's only the door handle that annoys.

I'll drop into Maplin and grab some flat handles at some point.

Door handle? I assume you mean the armrest thingy, the door pull. Can't really remember now to be fair, been about six weeks since I drove my chevette in anger. Need to get out and refresh my mind. Could you mount some sort of handle further up the door frame under the window like they have on some vans?
