That is genius! Think I'll get one and send it to my better half - she would definitely appreciate that.

The note draft 4:

Hi, I've noticed your car parked here recently. I also drive a chevette (an orange hatchback), in fact I drove past you the other day and waved. I only live just round the corner so I thought it might be nice to meet up for a chat sometime. Don't worry, I'm not a lunatic - I just like old cars. Anyway, if you want to get in toughyou can ring/text 07xxx xxxxxx or email [email protected]. Ralph

(additional material by doive).

I left out the bit about the website because the poor girl has only just been introduced to the concept of a chevette as a collectors car as opposed to cheap transport and I don't want to overwhelm her. Give it time though and I'm sure we'll have another new member.

Why do I feel like I'm writing some Dave Gorman/Tony Hawks-esque comedy book? 'Note on the windscreen.' By the way, just in case anyone thinks 'thats a good idea' I though of it first!

Perhaps including the website would be an idea as it gives her a non-personal point of contact (not that she wouldn't want to meet you of course!), I know I would be more likely to drop in on a website rather than email or text a random person. Just a suggestion! Peg it on to the end of draft 4, or perhaps go for draft 5. Sounds good though - especially the bit about the lunatic!

Ah but have you re-read this thread, definitely lunatic-esque behaviour if you ask me. Well the deed has been done (with draft 4) although if no reply comes I should point out that it is spitting down here so the note may get a bit damp so if there's no reply I'm blaming that rather than my lack of flair for continuous, meeting random people-related prose :)

Have just hit upon a happy medium here - if there's no reply within a few days I'll go and leave one about the website. No, sadly I'm between young beautiful female chevette owners at the moment so you never know (although frankly if we do ever meet up it wouldn't surprise me if she turns up with a whacking great boyfriend - 6ft 5 rugby kind).

Watch this space.

Oh, now that would hurt. I've tackled many such people on the pitch before and it hurts each and every time. Even when I was a 17 stone prop forward I never semmed to be able to stop the 6ft 5ers. Here's hoping for your sake she is single!

If it doesn't work after a few days, perhaps a week so as not to freak her out, then leave a note about the website. Tell you what, give me the reg number of the car and I'll trace her details through my 'contacts'. Then I could email her on behalf of the forum and save you all the hassle!

Gutted. I was out at a pet shop south of Edinburgh and parked outside Halfords in the same car park was a lovely T reg Kadett coupe GT-E in white over very yellow. Thought, "I'll just nip in to the shop, won't be a second, then I'll leave a note on the screen". Of course came out and it was gone. There wasn't a spot of rust anywhere on it, it was running the flat five spoke Manta alloys and looked superb. So disappointed I missed it.

I was looking in my yahoo account today and found an e-mail in the bulk box called 're: your letter' with a .pif file (they often contain malicious code) and nothing else in it. It was also from a very bizarre e-mail address - [email protected]. Would any clever computer person out there care to guess whether it's just some random virus or just that the person who is sending the e-mail has a virus on their pooter (although how would it manage to send itself via hotmail?). Anyway, I just thought it may be the person who's windscreen I noted.

I seriously doubt any sane normal person would have an email address like that, I reckon its a virus. I often get ones saying 're: your note', or 're: your order' etc etc. Delete it and forget about it.

I saw a bronze coloured 2 door saloon on the back of a trailer heading north up the M6 near Warrington on Saturday afternoon.

It looked like it was going to be a project car for somebody as it had a load of filler on the offside.

Good stuff another saloon! The numbers grow daily. Lets hope she is on her way to be saved, and not on her way to the scrappy.

dead hs

Postby ricky b » 22 Mar 2005, 15:35

There's a very sorry for it's self 78 HS lying in a front garden in Kilmarnock, knocked the guys door to see if he wanted to sell, got a curt no and the door slammed in my face!Drove buy a week later to see that he had blocked it in with the corpse of an Austin Maestro!,I must have looked dodgy! Found out from some mates that it's been lying for over 10 years, shame.
Also was shown a mobile phone pic the other week of an orange 4 door in Edinburgh traffic, was taken to remind me that they are actually meant to go!! As you can imagine constant winding up over the amount of time it's taking me to fettle my shuvitt back into shape. :D

Heh, tell me the reg number of the orange saloon - it may have been me!

Shame about the HS though, some people are so selfish, keep a nice car til it rots to bits then sell it because its too far gone for you to do anything with. What's the point of that??

Yeah, didn't someone once tell a story about some guy who had an HS and an HP Firenza rusting in a shed and wouldn't sell them or something (may have even been on this thread but I can't be bothered to look, feck'n dialup).

As for the girl mint - nothing. I have been officially well and truly ignored, although, the other week as I was parking I did see a girl who was walking past with a rather sizeable rugby type point at me and shelly and say something so I think I might leave it (more than one windscren note is harassment). Although it was spitting with rain at the time I left it so maybe she just couldn't read it, still never mind.

Not a chevette but I always see a really nice looking gold X-reg 4-door opel ascona in Soton. Just mint stock, but nice nonetheless.
