so if i put a 1600 Xflow engine in and uprate my brakes and get an engineers cert my insurance will be approx £1200 yet its only £700 for my 2ltr GT capri!

madness!

guess i wont be modifying it :(

Yeah insurers hate modified cars.... however if you join the NSRA (Nation Street Rod Association) you can get insured via their club insurance which is a lot more lenient on modified cars, provided you're a member.

Have you tried Adrian Flux insurance? www.adrianflux.co.uk

They do lots of restricted milage policies for collectors, modified & kit cars - very reasonable but don't usually come up in broker searches...
