Postby fatboyz » 29 Apr 2005, 15:01

hi people we are building a chevette with a 2.0xe 16v lump we want the car to handle good but we are wondering what the best cheapish setup is can anybody help (we have a manta gte axle and gearbox ) the reason im asking is that we built a mk2 escort with 180bhp pinto and it dont handle at all it just goes either straight or totally sideways but you dont know which one its fun but a bit dangerous, but it does have the capri 2.8i front struts and springs i think they may be too stiff, please help guys

ok, first off, that back axle - you are going to need a wide arch kit as the manta B axle is slightly wider thatn can fit under th eoriginal arches. See TJMotorsport for prices of kits

If you cant afford to widen the arches look for a manta A axle as these are the right width.

As for the handling i've never playd with altering it as in my opinion they handle on rails as standard. Steve (HSR2.6) is running a 2.0 8V rally car so I'm sure he could tell you more. Check out his website.......

www.chevetterallycar.bravehost .com (added a space in there as last time i put in a hyperlink in this forum it crashed someones website)
when all else fails, rivets, cable ties and bodge tape will see you through

Chevette Handling

Postby TJM » 04 Jun 2005, 14:48

Hi,

First off, what are you going to be using it for?

Is it the 2.0CIH Gearbox or the 1.8 (you need the 1.8 getrag as the bolt patterns are different to the CIH).

Chevette Hatch or Saloon?

Regards
Tim
