It's always fantastic to find out bits of history and links like that - what are the odds of that eh?! I hope the first owners of my cars are still around, I'd love to drop in and show them the condition the cars are in now.

Lol - yeah I've got the delivery letter and all sorts of stuff like that for mine. I even know the reg no. of the yellow 1977 vauxhall chevette L that was traded in for it - DBV 640S if that jogs anyone's memory. Quite a complicated history my car but I won't got into it. Suffice to say it's been in Preston, Kent, Billericay in Essex and now Leicestershire via 6 registered owners.

It's not hard to do Neily, keep a little book and a pen in your door pocket and make a note every time you fill her up. I do that for both my cars to get a feel for the mpg - the book allowed me to spot a bit of a dip in the chevette's mpg recently so I think the carb rebuild may be coming shortly to save me going broke at current petrol prices!

it alo means the guy may have some kind of nostalgic love for the car, so he'll do you a pucker job on a respray!
when all else fails, rivets, cable ties and bodge tape will see you through
