Hi everyone....

Postby Vauxmad_Kev » 04 May 2006, 22:00

Hi... Im new here, as Im sure you`ll c. Im just after getting a 1977 Chevette. Its yellow (think custard!) but its in good nick. A bit of surface rust here and there but nothing serious (well, not untill I go stripping anyway!)

I love my Vauxhalls but Im very new to the Chevette scene so I`ll be the one asking all the stupid and obvious questions for a while!

I am unsure of what to do with my car really. Strip it with a cage and 2 seats or leave it with a full interior? I would like to fit some kind of kit, but am unsure of what they`re called. I know the HSR kit ok, bit dear though.

Im hoping to fit an engine thats not too big, but has good tuning ability, and the ability to get the back out easily (main purpose for this project! Not drifting in competition though..... purely fun) ((limited slip diff!))

So, basically.... I need lots of advice and suggestions.... I know its all taste and I need to do some searching....

Anyway, sorry for the long post.... just wanted to say hi and tell you all my plans (yeah right, I dont know what they are yet!)

Im in Ireland by the way, so anyone over here please say hello and let me know where to get parts!

Right, thanx for your ears and eyes..... Ill be here a lot, tryin to get advice and knowledge... C u all soon....

Hi Kev and welcome. A cheaper (and less extreme) bodykit for the Chevette is the HS Group 4 kit - available from all good retailers etc. As for the interior - leave it in - then you'll be able to scare more of your friends at once

Greetings Kevin. You could always go for the sleeper look. Standard/flared arches, maybe some nice wheels. Leave the rest, wack a redtop in it and watch people dissapear in the rear view mirror 8)
They will prob look like this  as an apparent old banger passes!
theres only one thing better than a chevette - and thats THREE chevette's

I like that idea!!! A lot..... I`ve been playin with the idea of every engine, from a 1.6 (modified) to a V8 (doubtful!) The red top idea is dangerous though seeing as I have a Cav GSi with mint modified bodywork for sale, and if it doean`t sell soon Im considering stripping it!!

Anyway, thanx to everyone for the warm welcome. Im looking forward to getting to know you all.... virtually at least! Living in Ireland limits the amount of proper shows I get to.

Thanx again everyone.... lovin the site by the way! Top notch...

Welcome to the forum mate. You're our second new member from Tipperary in a week! Where in the fair county are you from?

As for engine options for your chevette, I've done a bit of measuring and I confidently predict, with a bit of bulkhead modification, you could squeeze a BMW straight six into the nose. Anything is possible!

Cool.... now that wud be nice. A straight 6.... sweet sound. I had a 320 E30 before. Not sur if Im prepared for that much work though. I went all out with my last car and it was some headache! Granted, at least I wud still have another car to drive this time!

Im in the southern part of Co. Tipperary.... a little place (not) called Clonmel. Can ya remember where the other person is from or what they`re driving?

They drive a chevette of some sort, and are from Cashel. My mother's father was born in Roscrea in north Tipperary, so I have a family connection there. The company I work for are also building a couple of windfarms in a little place called Carrig just south of Birr.

Hi from Ottawa too! Welcome to the forum, we're at least pleasanty insane, as opposed to obnoxiously insane like on OTHER forums... :)
